A Bookkeeper's main responsibilities can be separated into three subsections data entry, bank reconciliation and monthly reports. They are tasked with providing accurate, up-to-date financial information for the businesses they work for.

Mostly their reports go to business owners and managers. This allows them to analyse current data and strategise their next steps. Some Bookkeepers are even involved with the strategy development themselves.

Bookkeepers may work closely with Accountants too as both prepare annual financial reports and tax returns.

To succeed as a Bookkeeper you need to have excellent communication skills paired with the adept ability to use accounting software. A strong sense of business know-how and numerical ability are also required.

On top of this, you’ll also need to be highly organized and work well as part of a team or independently. You should also be able to multitask and have a willingness to learn.

Technically, no qualifications are necessary to secure employment as a Bookkeeper. However, finding employment without a qualification can be tricky and learning on the job may be slow. Not to mention your salary will reflect your lack of experience.

Completing the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping gives you the necessary skill set to succeed. So you’re able to fast-track your progress and start your new career as soon as possible.

You’ll study the key principles of bookkeeping that can be applied to many industries. What’s more, you’re able to complete the course from the comfort of your own home.
