Kennel and Cattery Management Level 3 Diploma (RQF)

  • Learn how to care for dogs and cats
  • Gain essential kennel and cattery management skills
  • Learn animal welfare legislation
  • Become confident in animal nutrition, handling and care
  • Study feline psychology and behaviour
  • Champion animal welfare
  • Work for or set up your own cattery or kennel business

Kennels and catteries provide care for dogs and cats during periods their owners are unable to do so themselves. This could be because they are going away, unwell or moving home.

Regardless of the reason, kennels and catteries are charged with caring for the furriest members of the family. This requires a lot of trust on the part of the owner, so as an employee or owner of a kennel or cattery, they need to feel you can competently care for their pet.

Studying Kennel and Cattery Management will give you the insight required to effectively care for animals both in terms of their physical health but psychological wellbeing too.

Upon completion of this course, you will have the knowledge you need to successfully run a kennel or cattery from business acumen to animal care.

Kennel and cattery management is an opportunity to care for animals as a career. Your role will be to look after other people’s animals from nutrition and exercise to welfare and affection.

It can be a rewarding role as you will get to enjoy spending time with dogs and/or cats of all breeds, shapes and sizes while caring for them on a short-term basis.

This requires you to not only be great with animals but people too. Trust is essential as owners are leaving their animals in your care. For some, it’s as emotionally distressing as leaving a child.

Running a kennel or cattery can be a challenging job. The laws around animal welfare and care are very specific requiring a methodical mind, attention to detail and a genuine desire to care for the animals in your charge.

Running any business can be challenging let alone one involving the care of animals.

This requires both affection for the animals, and a comprehensive understanding of how to look after their needs – from the correct food (in the correct quantities) to exercise and affection.

Plus, all the other elements of running a business and the processes necessary to do so successfully.

A level 3 diploma in Kennel and Cattery management will give you the knowledge you need to safely care for dogs and cates in a kennel or cattery setting but how to run a business too.
