A Veterinary Nursing Assistant supports veterinary professionals in the day-to-day running of a veterinary clinic. Providing both emergency and routine healthcare to animal patients. As well as pastoral care and guidance to their owners.

You’ll be responsible for observing and updating records of the animals within your care. Liaising with other staff members on their progress to ensure the best course of action moving forward. As well as overseeing practice maintenance, preparing kennels/cages and cleaning examining rooms.  

Depending on the type of veterinary practice work will affect the animals you see. Some may work primarily with small domesticated animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs. Others may spend most of their time caring for livestock or local wildlife.

To excel as a veterinary nursing assistant you need to have a strong desire to work with animals. It’s a challenging but fulfilling role that allows you to work with likeminded individuals. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team are essential.

You’ll need to be well versed in animal care legislation and have a genuine passion for animal welfare. Being articulate enough to share your understanding to owners to ensure they can look after their animals properly.
